Get Creative with Cast Iron

This kitchen staple is a versatile workhorse for some of your favorite recipes.

Fried Chicken

Cast iron was made for this. It’s the perfect depth to fry a batch of chicken, and because it’s iron, which holds heat super well, the oil temperature doesn’t drop too low when you add food. And the oil seasons the pan while you cook, as a bonus.

Dutch Baby Pancakes

Caramelized apples are perfect surrounded by puffy raised pancake.

Pan Pizza

Swap your pizza pan for a skillet for a perfectly golden crust.

Spanish Tortilla

This potato-heavy frittata goes two rounds in your skillet: first to fry the potatoes, then to cook the eggs.

Bibimbap

Use your skillet instead of the traditional clay pot to get extra-delicious crispy edges in your Korean rice casserole.

Lasagna

Layer your skillet with noodles, cheese and sauce, then bake.

S'mores

If you’re indoors, layer the graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows in your skillet. Fire it up under the broiler, then let everyone dig in.

Panini

You can either grill sandwiches inside your skillet, or use the weight of your skillet to weight down sandwiches as you grill them. It’s a win either way.

Crepes

If your cast-iron skillet is well-seasoned, it’s perfect for these thin, delicate pancakes. Warning: It’s a heavy pan, so flipping pancakes in here can be a bit of a workout.

Oatmeal

Cook oats in your oven to get them deeply browned and caramelized.
