At this point in the ongoing (never-ending?) Chicken Sandwich Wars, it’s starting to seem as if you could eat a different fast food chicken sandwich every day of 2021 and never run out of new sandwiches to try. Now there’s yet another new option: a soon-to-launch spicy, grilled chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A.
The chain, whose fried-chicken sandwich arguably started the craze, is defending its turf with its new Grilled Spicy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich, launching on January 25 and available at participating restaurants nationwide for a limited time only. It features spicy-seasoning-marinated grilled chicken, Colby Jack cheese, lettuce and tomato on a toasted multigrain brioche bun and comes with a packet of “cool and creamy” Cilantro Lime Sauce, created especially for the new sandwich and also available only for a limited time.
First developed and tested in limited markets in fall 2017, the new sandwich will be Chick-fil-A’s first nationally available limited-time entree addition since summer 2019. The chain suggests pairing the sandwich with its seasonal Chicken Tortilla Soup — for additional spice — or permanent sides such as the Waffle Potato Fries, Mac & Cheese and Kale Crunch Side.
"We know guests are looking to add more variety to their meals, especially after a year where new food experiences were limited,” Leslie Neslage, Chick-fil-A’s director of menu and packaging, said in a news release. “The Grilled Spicy Deluxe is a flavorful twist on our current grilled offerings that we have been testing in select markets since 2017, and it provides a bold break from the standard lunch and dinner routines.”
Chick-fil-A says it plans to launch more limited-time menu options throughout 2021. So be ready to update your list of “new chicken sandwiches to try this year” at any point.
