Lay’s Is Giving Us Layered Potato Chips

Lay’s Layers will please those who find classic potato chips a little too one-dimensional.

If you’ve been feeling like snack time is a little flat these days — sorta same old, same old — Lay’s is launching a new chip that promises to not only shake things up, but also take them to the next level.

The brand is crunching its way into 2022 with the introduction of new Lay’s Layers, which it describes as “multi-dimensional, one-of-a-kind potato bites with layers of delicious crispiness.”

The new Lay’s Layers product line will launch with two flavors familiar to Lay’s potato chip fans: Three Cheese, which features “a vibrant, tangy, cheesy blend of cheddar, parmesan and gouda,” and Sour Cream & Onion, offering a “savory blend of sautéed onion and sour cream,” according to Lay’s.

So what distinguishes these “crispy layered potato bites” from your basic — or should we say “classic” — Lay’s potato chips? Judging from product images, the new chips look to be sort of a three-dimensional yin-and-yang shape, or, to put it differently, an open cylinder with a wavy center.

The crunchy discs look strange and tasty — and if, like us, you are anxious to try them, you’ll be able to find them in mid-January at retailers nationwide priced at $4.09 for a 4.75-ounce bag, $1.99 for a 1.75-ounce bag; or $1 for two 0.5-ounce bags.

That’s one way to keep your resolution to try new things in the new year!
